Interviews
The Orientation Leader application process will consist of two interviews, one group and the other an individual interview. Individual interview invitations will be extended upon successful completion of the group interview. All interviews will take place in person. Interview times are listed below.
Please note that if you are a resident adviser (RA), an Under1Roof facilitator or consent facilitator, or intend to study abroad in Fall 2025, you are unable to be an Orientation Leader due to scheduling conflicts. Please contact orientation@columbia.edu with questions.
Important Dates and Expectations
- Always maintain a positive attitude towards Columbia University and NSOP
- Respect and follow the directions of crew captains, the NSOP committee and NSOP staff
- Adhere to the important dates below:
- Group Interviews (in-person) - Group interviews will take place at the following times:
- Friday, March 7th, 10:00–11:00 a.m. EST
- Monday, March 10th, 10:00–11:00 a.m. EDT
- Tuesday, March 11th, 7:00–8:00 p.m. EDT
- Wednesday, March 12th, 7:00–8:00 p.m. EDT
- Individual Interviews (in-person) – Individual interview invitations will be extended upon successful completion of the group interview and will take place in the Lerner 515 suite with NSOP Staff. Each interview will last around 10 minutes and will take place during the following dates:
- Thursday, March 27th–Thursday, April 3rd
- OL Signing Sessions (in-person)- All leaders who have received an offer must attend one of these sessions.
- Wednesday, April 16th, 7:00–7:30 p.m. EDT
- Thursday, April 17th, 7:00–7:30 p.m. EDT
- Friday, April 18th, 10:00–10:30 a.m. EDT
- NSOP Meet Your Cohort (in-person) - Study break for Committee, Crew Captains, and Orientation Leaders
- Saturday, May 3rd, 2:00–4:00 p.m. EDT
- Note: Columbia Outdoor Orientation Program OLs will have an additional training and meet your cohort day in April. This date will be posted shortly.
- OL Move-In - Orientation Leaders are expected to arrive on campus anytime during the designated move-in times prior to the start of NSOP training. NSOP is not able to accommodate early arrivals.
- Monday, August 18th
- OL Training - Orientation Leaders must be available for the duration of training. Training will begin promptly at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20.
- Tuesday, August 19th–Friday, August 22nd
- NSOP 2025 - Orientation Leaders must be available for the entirety of NSOP
- Sunday, August 24th – Monday, September 1st
- Saturday, August 23rd (some OLs may have move-in responsibilities on this day)
