The First Year Area is a vibrant residential community supporting Columbia's newest students. The residential spaces, which surround the South Lawns, include:
RAs and Residential Life staff in the First Year Area work to provide dedicated programming and community support, working closely with Faculty-in-Residence Professor John Kymissis to offer opportunities for students to engage with faculty across the University. Dean-in-residence Cristen Kromm, dean of Undergraduate Student Life, also resides in the area.
The First Year Area team consists of one associate director, four residence hall directors, and 45 resident advisers.
