What

Academic Year preceding Application (Junior or Senior or beyond)

Fall Term

Over this term students should:

1.  Attend mandatory Premedical Advisory Committee Application Workshop
2.  Begin assembling letters of recommendation
3.  Begin preparation for entrance exams (if not yet taken)
4.  Make an appointment to see their premedical advisor to discuss the application process.

Winter Break

Work on PAC Application for the Committee Evaluation

Spring Term

All course work that is required for the necessary admission tests should be completed by the end of the year.

Over this term, students should:
1. Prepare and take the MCAT or DAT
2. Complete the Columbia Premedical Advisory Committee (PAC) Application 
3. Request that recommendations be sent to the Office of Preprofessional Advising. Recommendations cannot be delivered by students!
4. Schedule and complete interview with Premedical Advisory Committee. 
5. Send transcripts for all coursework to centralized application services

February

Submit PAC Application to the Office of Preprofessional Advising: by stated deadline 

May

Begin working on centralized applications.

Summer

Submit centralized applications

Summer-October

Premedical Committee Evaluations are uploaded/sent to health professional schools; Students should begin to receive and complete secondary applications. These secondary applications should be completed in a 2-3 week turn-around time.

Application Year

August to April

Throughout the academic year, students should prepare for and attend interviews.

October 1

Early decision acceptances announced.

October-August

Medical school admissions decisions sent out. Students should record their acceptances and rejections in the Office of Prepreprofessional Advising.

April 30

Students should release all but one acceptance to allopathic medical schools.

Late Summer

Students should inform Preprofessional Advising of their final school choice.
