Multicultural Affairs Advisory Council (MAAC)

The Multicultural Affairs Advisory Council (MAAC) is a group comprised of a broad representation of undergraduates from Columbia College and Columbia Engineering who work collectively toward continually enhancing the programs and services of the Multicultural Affairs and other campus offices; evaluating the needs of our diverse undergraduate student population; identifying relevant campus issues; and promoting a campus environment of inclusion, self-awareness, intercultural engagement and social responsibility. Its mission and functions can be found here.

MAAC is comprised of four distinct advisory boards:

  • First-Gen Student Advisory Board (FAB)
  • International Student Advisory Board (ISAB)
  • Queer and Trans Student Advisory Board (QTAB)
  • Student of Color Advisory Board (SOCAB)

Campus Campaigns

Multicultural Affairs promotes various awareness and educational campaigns to help raise the visibilty of key issues and important messages across campus. One example is the "Love love. Hate hate." campaign. A partnership with former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and former New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, this initiative brings the "Love Love. Hate Hate." campaign to Columbia University. Former Mayor Bloomberg and Former Speaker Quinn launched the city-wide campaign, which celebrates diversity and condemns acts of hate and bias, in October 2010. Columbia was the first university to bring the campaign to its campus.
