Advocacy

Multicultural Affairs staff regularly meet with individual students, student leaders, and student groups. In addition to providing spaces to be heard, staff assist students by creating connections with other University resources through supportive referrals and through facilitating meetings with relevant students and campus partners. Often when campus concerns are raised, MA staff will work with the students to identify impact and realistic interventions, and then will reach out to appropriate office or school-based/ University leader in order to bring attention to the issues and/or strategize how best to address the concerns.

All Columbia College and Columbia Engineering undergraduates can make an appointment with any staff member here, or they may reach out to multicultural@columbia.edu.

To streamline this advocacy work and strengthen the partnership with campus offices, MA developed the Multicultural Affairs Advisory Council and their corresponding Resource Teams.
