This year’s conference theme examines "Dialogue as a Transformative Tool of Social Change." Sessions will focus on “dialogue” itself and what its purposefulness is in constructive social change. It will also provide a framework to showcase how Multicultural Affairs has grounded much of its work in intergroup dialogistic practices over the past ten years.
Our opening plenary speaker and presenter is Dr. Derald Wing Sue, Professor of Psychology & Education, Teachers College, Columbia University. He is the bestselling author of groundbreaking books, including Microaggressions in Everyday Life: Race, Gender, and Sexual Orientation and Race Talk and the Conspiracy of Silence: Understanding and Facilitating Difficult Dialogues on Race (January 2015). Our closing plenary speaker is Dr. Kevin Nadal, award-winning professor, psychologist, performer, activist, and author, who received his doctorate in counseling psychology from Columbia University in New York City. Currently, he is the Executive Director of the CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies at the Graduate Center (GC) at the City University of New York (CUNY). Dr. Nadal was also one of the first coordinators for Respecting Ourselves and Others through Education (ROOTEd) at Columbia.
All sessions will be held in Alfred Lerner Hall, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. In days preceding and following the conference, we will also offer trainings for students, faculty, and staff to develop group dialogue facilitation skills. A full schedule of the conference day can be found below.
