Family Orientation events will begin in the morning and run through the afternoon – feel free to choose the sessions you’d like to attend! You will have the opportunity to learn about the many support services and campus community offerings available to your student through panels about health and safety, campus involvement, and academic advising. There will also be lectures from Columbia College and Columbia Engineering faculty. You will receive a detailed schedule when you check in!
At the end of the day, students and families will attend Convocation – the formal assembly of the Columbia College, Columbia Engineering and Columbia University communities that welcomes first-year students. This event marks the beginning of students' undergraduate journey. The ceremony features remarks from Columbia College Dean Josef Sorett and Columbia Engineering Dean Shih-Fu Chang.
Families should plan to depart campus after Convocation concludes so students can begin their New Student Orientation Program (NSOP) experience.
