WKCR's On-Air Guide
The January 2025 Issue
Dear Listeners,
We're pleased to be among the first (we hope) to join you in ringing in the New Year! We hope 2024 brought you only good things, and we hope for the best for 2025 as well. We have a longer-than-usual email, but it's all stuff you'll want to read.
We're pleased to be among the first (we hope) to join you in ringing in the New Year! We hope 2024 brought you only good things, and we hope for the best for 2025 as well. We have a longer-than-usual email, but it's all stuff you'll want to read.
Now, we know you must have been dying to receive the first On Air issue of the year, and we're happy to bring it to you right in time. Should you find yourself missing WKCR too much after the end of Bachfest, or should you want for New Year's Day reading material, our stellar January issue has got you covered. If you've missed Ted Schmiedeler's Monday night Free Samples, you can read his brief history of hip hop sampling and its legality; if you, like other moviegoers, will watch the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, McCartney Garb's excellent article provides a thorough primer on the music scene onto which that Dylan emerged; and if you've ever tuned into one of Tanvi or Georgia's shows, you'll delight in their detailed interview with Ted.
This issue is also replete with WKCR traditions: we bring you the long-awaited WKCR Top 50 list of records released in 2024 (which station staff looks forward to every year) and an accompanying WKCRossword (along with the solutions to the November iteration), an "Around the Station" that we hope will prompt some reflection for the new year, and a heartfelt thank you to all those donors who supported us during our winter fund drive.
Lastly, a piece of good news: you can now download On Air in PDF from the ISSUU link. Just find the download icon and the month's issue will be downloaded onto your personal device. The best way to see it, though, is still to browse on ISSUU, which brings us to our second piece of good news—there should no longer be ads on our ISSUU page, so you can browse on the ISSUU platform distraction-free. Just in case you still want to solve the WKCRossword, however, we attach a PDF of this month's puzzle!
