Tune in to WKCR-FM this Wednesday, October 26th at 6pm to catch Eri Yamamoto on the Musician’s Show.
Since moving to the United States in 1995, Eri Yamamoto has established herself as one of jazz's most original and compelling pianists and composers. Herbie Hancock has said, “My hat's off to her... already she's found her own voice.”
Yamamoto studied with Reggie Workman, Junior Mance and LeeAnn Ledgerwood while attending the New School and later obtained her masters in music education and composition from Shiga University in Japan.
Yamamoto performs as both a solo artist and with her longstanding trio partners, bassist David Ambrosio and drummer Ikuo Takeuchi. Her tenth album, life, was released in 2016. She has also collaborated with celebrated musicians such as William Parker, Daniel Carter, Hamid Drake, Federico Ughi, Yves Leveille and Paul McCandless.
