Nueva Canción y Demás is an hour-long exploration of the protest music created throughout Latin America during the 60's and 70's, decades characterized by a particularly dynamic sociopolitcal climate. Nueva Canción itself coming out of Chile, with figures such as Víctor Jara, Violeta Parra, and Inti-Illimani adding politically-charged lyrics to traditional cuecas, huaynos, and other folk rhythms, listeners will also listen to and learn about similar genres and musicians of other nationalities, such as Cuban Nueva Trova and Argentinians like Atahualpa Yupanqui and Mercedes Sosa. This program may also feature indigenous music and revolutionary poetry of the region, and is conducted both in English and Spanish.
