Tune in to Out to Lunch this Thursday, October 12 from 12-3 PM ET for an interview with rising saxophonist Mike Casey. A graduate of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School, as well as an alumnus of the distinguished Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program, Casey has excelled as a sideman at such famous venues as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Minton’s and Smalls Jazz Club. This February he released his album debut, The Sound of Surprise, with Matt Dwonszyk on acoustic bass and Corey Garcia on drums - three of the brightest rising stars in jazz. The album has garnered international airplay, sales, and press. Between winter and fall 2017, Mike's trio (4 years strong) toured 26 cities in support of the album, hitting (and in some cases, selling out) notable jazz venues across the Northeast. Having recently released the single Norwegian Wood, recorded live from Sofar Sounds in NYC, the Mike Casey Trio is preparing for a much-awaited performance at the upcoming BRIC JazzFest 2017.
