Tune in for an open discussion with saxophonist Matana Roberts this Tuesday on Afternoon New Music from 3-4pm EST. Roberts brings her sax and expounds on the ideas that underpin her upcoming sound cycle, "breathe..." a conceptual work which draws on her recent residency in Prismatic Park (in Madison Square Gardens).
"Breathe...", which Roberts explains was galvanized by the rise of militarized police, uses sound to explore layers of past and present with a compositional style Roberts calls panoramic sound quilting. "Breathe..." will premiere this Thursday at Roulette at 8pm.
