A new release by Duo526, comprised of Kerry DuWors on violin and Futaba Niekawa on piano, highlighted this morning's Cereal Music program. Their new album, Ballade, with sonatas of Janacek, Enescu, and Grieg, is now out on the Navona label. Continuing with an exploration of the lesser-known music of George Enescu — from his grand opera Oedipe, completed in span of multiple decades and premiered in the shadow of the Second World War, on the previous SNO program; to his very early second violin sonata, composed at the ripe age of 18, to start this program — we listened to his Symphony No. 2 in A major, written just prior to the First World War. Anne Akiko Meyers rounded out both hours with interludes of Pritsker, Schnittke, Gershwin, and Vernon Duke.
