An extended edition of Sonidos Colombianos featuring the music behind the 47th annual Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata, where local and even foreign accordionists gather in Valledupar, Colombia during the last days of April to compete for the title Rey Vallenato or "Vallenato King" in different categories- professional, amateur, and youngster. Following a strict formula of playing the four rhythms of paseo, merengue, puya, and son, each ensemble is expected to consist of diatonic accordion, hand drum or caja, and bamboo scraper or guacharaca. Tonight not only will we feature recordings by various Vallenato Kings, but will name all 46 Reyes in less than five minutes! Finally, but most important- this year's Festival conmemorates the life and music of legendary vallenato singer Diomedes Díaz, who died in December 2013.
