Sainkho Namchylak, vocalist from the Tuva Republic in Siberia who started out as a throat singer before moving on to avant-garde vocal compositions. We also explore her collaborations with American multi-instrumentalist/free jazz musician Ned Rothenbeg.
We then move on to the Ganelin Trio, a preeminent free improvisation jazz trio in the Soviet Union in the 1970s and the 1980s. They premiered at the Warsaw Jazz Jamboree in 1976 and broke up in 1987. We listen to a live recording at Moscow from 1983.
