The following is a recording of a live reading and interview with Tim Tomlinson. Tim is a co-founder of New York Writers Workshop and co-author of its popular text, The Portable MFA in Creative Writing. His chapbook, Yolanda: An Oral History in Verse , is a collection of non-fiction poems configured from oral histories he gathered from survivors of the climate change disaster, Super-Typhoon Yolanda, which struck the Philippines in 2013 and killed over 10,000. His full-length collection of poems, Requiem for the Tree Fort I Set on Fire, will appear in August. His fiction has appeared in numerous venues including The Missouri Review, The North American Review, and recently in Sin Fronteras, Mulberry Fork Review, and the anthologies Long Island Noirand Fast Food Fiction Delivery. He was born in Brooklyn, raised on Long Island, where he dropped out of high school at the age of sixteen. Since that time, he’s lived in Boston, New Orleans, Miami, the Bahamas, London, Florence, Shanghai, Cha’am, Thailand, and Manila, all of which continue to inform his work. He’s an avid scuba diver, a certified yoga instructor, and a member of Asia Pacific Writers & Translators. Currently he lives in Brooklyn. He’s an Assistant Professor in NYU’s Global Liberal Studies program.
