Columbia College Dean's Travel Fund

Please note that all funds for the 2024-2025 academic year are currently committed. Submitting this form would put your group on the waitlist if funding were to become available.

The Columbia College Dean's Travel Fund provides financial support to currently enrolled Columbia College students for travel connected to recognized student organization activities, including networking, competitions, conferences, team-building, and/or service work. The Columbia College Student Council proposed the fund, which is generously financed by the dean of Columbia College and administratively supported by Undergraduate Student Life.

Before submitting the form on behalf of your student organization, closely review all the application notes provided below. Please anticipate a turnaround time of one to two weeks for review of your application.

For more information, email cctravelfund@columbia.edu.

For 2024-2025, applications launched Thursday, September 19.

Who is eligible to apply?

Currently enrolled Columbia College students involved in organizations recognized by Activities Board at Columbia (ABC), Student Governing Board (SGB), or InterGreek Council (IGC) may apply for funding. One application should be submitted on behalf of all Columbia College group members seeking funding. Students who apply for and receive funding must be in good academic and judicial standing.

Priority is given to applications that provide a thorough and realistic projected budget. Please note that individual students and/or groups may apply for funding more than once.

This fund does not support travel for academic or research-based opportunities unconnected to a recognized student organization.

When can my group apply for funding?

We recommend applying as soon as you have mapped out the basic logistics of your travel opportunity and after a discussion with your adviser. Applications can be reviewed with an approximate date range and/or anticipated student roster.

How is funding awarded?

Amounts are based on the strength of the application and the funds available. These may be awarded up to, but may not exceed, 100% of the total request. Additionally, there is a maximum award amount per group per academic year to ensure a wide range of groups have access to this travel funding resource.

Registration, lodging and transportation are allowable expenses from the fund. However, funding may not be used for reimbursements or for car rentals.

Students seeking opportunities for support of individual summer internships should review the Center for Career Education Funding Programs.

Application Review

You must complete an online application at least four weeks in advance of traveling for domestic trips and eight weeks for international trips to be considered. All proposed travelers must undergo academic and judicial checks. The speed at which your application can be reviewed is contingent upon how quickly travelers consent to have their academic and judicial status confirmed by administrators of the fund. Please anticipate one to two weeks turnaround time for review of your application.

Applications are reviewed by members of the Student Engagement team within Undergraduate Student Life.

Guidelines for Funding Recipients

All students who are awarded support through the Columbia College Dean's Travel Fund must abide by all University policies and procedures, including the Undergraduate International Travel Policy
