Columbia Outdoor Orientation Program (COÖP) coordinators work throughout the spring semester, the summer months, and the fall semester (one whole calendar year!) to coordinate all arrangements for spring leader training trips and summer orientation trips for first-year students. Coordinators work as a team and are supervised by the Student Engagement staff.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to attending steering committee and other meetings, maintaining a budget, coordinating the re-interviewing process for returning leaders, selecting new leaders, planning leader training (group dynamics), coordinating details of spring and fall trips (i.e. location, transportation, logistics, first aid, orientation, housing, food, etc.), and coordinating first-year student arrival (i.e. brochure mailing, application processing, informational letters, responding to questions, financial aid, etc.). Coordinators also work with Student Engagement to evaluate their program and to choose new coordinators for the next calendar year.
In addition to peers within COÖP, coordinators also work with staff and administrators from Student Engagement, Columbia Housing, various deans' offices, vendors, rangers, campsites, and many other people who are part of the outdoor orientation experience. Coordinators must be in good academic standing with no outstanding incompletes and be registered students for the upcoming year.
Compensation includes free housing for the summer months (including interim periods) and a stipend.
