Eligibility

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; be a rising sophomore or junior at any college or university; have a 2.7 GPA or higher; be economically disadvantaged or belong to one or more of the following underrepresented groups: African American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian/Alaskan Native; Have a genuine interest in pursuing research and a graduate degree, particularly in a field related science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)

Description

The University at Albany Summer Research Program (UASRP) offers enriching and valuable research experiences to qualified, underrepresented undergraduate students. 

UASRP participants work under the direction and guidance of faculty members and researchers during an intensive, eight-week, residential program during UAlbany’s Summer Session. 

The institutions and agencies we partner with include but are not limited to: 

  • UAlbany's Cancer Research Center

  • Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ Pharmaceutical Research Institute  

  • Albany Medical College 

  • New York State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center 

  • Albany Stratton VA Medical Center  

Students spends the summer working on a specific research assignment, while receiving hands-on training in academic research and scholarly writing. They also attend seminars, workshops, events and field trips. 

All students receive a stipend and a certificate of completion. Participants must reside on campus during the program; UASRP covers housing and meal plan costs for the entire length of the program.

Participants will be asked to present their research at the University of Buffalo Annual McNair Summer Research Conference and at select conferences during the academic year.
