Description
The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences has established an internship program for training undergraduate students in the biomedical sciences. Interns are given hands-on experience in a biomedical laboratory and are encouraged to apply to PhD programs.
The SURE students are placed in laboratories at UMMC under the mentorship of a biomedical researcher. In addition to the laboratory experience, students attend seminars and discussions aimed at enhancing their understanding of the current status of biomedical research and the career opportunities available. Students may also participate in weekly journal clubs and seminars, as well as taking part in various social and networking activities.
Students may work with faculty on cutting-edge research in the following disciplines:
- Autoimmune diseases
- Biochemistry and molecular biology
- Biomaterial synthesis and characterization
- Biomedical engineering
- Cardiovascular disease
- Cell signaling
- Cognitive function and dementia
- Computational medicine
