Shane Spring is being recognized for his community-building contributions through his involvement as a Resident Advisor (RA), Co-President of the Columbia Organization of Rising Entrepreneurs (CORE), Co-President of the Latinx Professional and Educational Network (LPEN), and Head of Marketing and Communications for Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). Through his role as an RA, Shane curated spaces for meaningful connection through an annual Floor Thanksgiving tradition, hosting lounge decorating sessions for the holidays, and organizing various NYC outings. As Co-President of CORE, Shane conceptualized and executed the first-ever Camp CORE which allowed board members to bond with one another prior to the start of the school year through escape rooms, karaoke, dinners, and CORElympics. With LPEN, Shane cultivated partnerships with Columbia University’s Black Pre-Professional Society and Columbia Business School’s Hispanic Business Association to expose students to career opportunities and fellowships. Finally, with RUF, Shane led planning for RUF’s first ever formal, RUFormal.
I am incredibly grateful to be awarded both the Community Building award and Senior Marshal. I wholeheartedly believe that cultivating spaces where students can be free to be themselves and be fully known by their peers is essential to developing meaningful connections. Thank you Jesus for these blessings and thank you to my mom, dad, and sister for their unwavering support throughout these last four years. Love you guys so much.
