While being an Applied Mathematics major at Columbia Engineering, I believe that music and community-building have been equally important parts of my undergraduate life. I have been a member of the Columbia Bach Society since my first year, and have performed and rehearsed with the group as a chorus member, a rehearsal pianist, and a voice soloist. I have also been fortunate enough to have gotten to know the artistic directors and many of the orchestra members; I attribute this to having served on the board for most of my time in the club, and being Co-President of the club since 2020. I have also enjoyed performing as both a pianist and a vocalist in various capacities, as well as producing the 2019 Fall Repertory Scenes show with the New Opera workshop. Besides these club activities and performance opportunities, I have also found community on campus within my residence hall community, Broadway/Hogan, during my time there as a Resident Advisor.
Over the semesters, I was also able to find my passion in optimization and algorithms through my technical electives in CS and IEOR, algorithms research with Professor Eric Balkanski, and serving as a Course Assistant for theoretical CS classes with Professor Xi Chen.
Thank you to all of my friends for your companionship, everyone in my beloved Bach Society and New Opera Workshop, and Barnard-Columbia Chorus and Chamber family for your wonderful musicianship, the Egleston Scholars' Program (particularly Dean Brovman and Adrieanna), Dr. Sarah Goldberg (CCE), Professor Eric Balkanski (IEOR), Ms. Josephine Mongiardo-Cooper (Barnard music/voice) for your support and encouragement!
