During my time at Columbia, I have been afforded unique opportunities to explore my multiple identities, most notably my identity as Shia Muslim and as an East African of South Asian descent. My college experience has taught me that minorities are responsible for creating and reconfiguring spaces to fit our needs and desires and that we should not shy away in the faces of normative majorities. Although it is tiring, especially as a busy Columbia student, the fruits of your labor will be sweet and gratifying. I would like to thank and acknowledge the inspiring Shia Muslims on campus, the Khojas for Black Lives team, and my loving family and friends for supporting me and keeping me grounded throughout college.
