Award Recognition
Community Building
Ethan Turok is being recognized for excellence in teaching and fostering a sense of community in the Emerging Scholars Program (ESP). As a workshop assistant in ESP, Ethan teaches a weekly class to 10+ freshmen on advanced computer science topics: machine learning, graph theory, UI/UX, algorithms, cryptography, etc. He goes above and beyond by buying snacks before every class and meeting with students after class, providing them with advice on courses, the computer science major, and life in general. His enthusiasm while teaching was always contagious and he would enhance every lesson with a technical aside from a research paper or journal he recently read. Ethan truly gave back to the computer science community at Columbia and for this reason is being awarded the Community Building award.
Thank you so much for this nomination!
