Prior to fall enrollment, entering first-year program participants attend a mandatory five-week Summer Bridge Program offered through Academic Success Programs. Participants take courses in Calculus, Statistics, Writing, Literature Humanities, Physics, Psychology, and Chemistry to prepare for the academic work required of Columbia students. The program begins on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, and ends Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Residential Counselor
Position Summary (Monday, July 1 - Wednesday, August 7)
This is a full-time, five-week, live-in position. Residential Counselors attend a mandatory training program scheduled prior to the start of the Summer Bridge Program.
Responsibilities: Live in residence hall; assist in peer counseling pre first-year students; supervise and develop recreational activities; assist with all program activities; complete student evaluation forms; attend orientation and staff meetings; assist instructors in classroom activities; assist in tutoring students during the evening help rooms; and perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications: Must be able to work effectively with students and staff, both in classroom and residential setting; current full-time, upper-division undergraduate student in good academic standing at time of employment; prior peer counseling experience preferred; experience working with diverse communities; experience working in group settings; demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills; responsible and mature.
Compensation: Residential Counselor will receive payment commensurate with experience, room and board for the duration of the program and training, access to Dodge Physical Fitness Center, and admission to Summer Bridge Program sponsored cultural trips and activities.
