Aunika is a senior majoring in biomedical engineering and minoring in statistics. She was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota and has had a passion for promoting health and wellness in her communities since she was young, especially those lacking access to medical education and care. At Columbia, Aunika has served as President of Active Minds at CU, a resident adviser in the undergraduate residence halls, Co-Vice President of the Peer Support Group in Columbia Synapse, Vice President of Columbia Red Cross, a health educator in Columbia Students for Health Education, Access, and Literacy (S-HEAL), and a volunteer at a Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital and Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center. In these roles, she has spearheaded mental health awareness initiatives and self-care events for students, provided a place of connection and discussion for traumatic brain injury survivors, and held health workshops for high schoolers in an underserved community. Aunika will be pursuing an MD after graduation.
I am incredibly honored to have been selected to receive the Health and Wellness award. I would like to thank the BME department, my friends, peers, mentors, and especially my family for their continuous support and guidance to help me pursue my goals and passions.
