Sarah Silverman is a graduating senior majoring in Astrophysics and concentrating in Earth Science. She is being recognized for her commitment to roles that have involved engaging with people both within and beyond the campus community. As a member of the Undergraduate Recruitment Committee, Sarah has enjoyed introducing prospective students to the unique culture and opportunities at Columbia through her roles as a tour guide and Visitors Center intern. She is also particularly passionate about scientific public outreach and has sought ways to empower others to engage with science confidently and successfully. She has worked as an elementary school math tutor in a Columbia-led afterschool program and a Calculus I Teaching Assistant, and additionally served as Public Relations Director for Columbia’s astronomy club Blueshift from 2020-2022. More recently, Sarah has loved joining Columbia’s comedy scene as an actor in Latenite Theatre!
I am so grateful to all those who selected me to be honored with these awards. I have grown so much through the friendships and mentorship I have experienced during my time at Columbia, and I feel so lucky to have been a part of such a vibrant community. I also thank my family for all of their support and guidance—I couldn't have gotten here without you!
