Principled Action
Cameron is passionate about reducing suffering for sentient beings, specifically the 5000+ animals that are killed every single second by humans for food, clothing, entertainment, and research. Cameron is the founder and president of the Columbia Allied Scholars for Animal Protection, which educates on the impacts of animal consumption and advocates for veganism as a way for individuals to end their active participation in the animal abuse associated with animal product consumption. He has undertaken a supervised study of animal ethics in the Columbia philosophy department. Cameron also helped run Columbia Effective Altruism, focusing on how we can use evidence and reason to maximize positive impact with our time and money. He is concentrating in both math and earth science, and he plans to pursue a Masters or PhD in geology or geophysics with the goal of securing abundant geothermal energy resources for future generations.
For being gardeners and not carpenters, thank you Mom and Dad. For your heart of compassion, thank you Mahan. For making college worth it, thank you to my friends at Columbia. For helping me see that there's no difference between the animals I love at home and those whose bodies lay in the fridge, thank you Jasper, Tyrone, and Abdollah.
